In the Fall of 2024, I worked to digitally preserve the Birthplace on Hampden-Sydney College's campus. The Birthplace was the original building that the college was founded in. The building was built in 1750, and the college was founded in 1775.
During my time spent on site, I was able to grab enough image data to create a high-quality photo scan of the historic buildings' exterior.
This is how the final photogrammetry model turned out.
Using the photo scan of the buiilding that I created; I was also able to create a Gaussian Splat of the site, allowing future users the ability to walk around the building.
On behalf of Dr. Alex Wirth and the Hampden-Sydney Biology department, these are 3D models of taxidermized penguins brought back by Admiral Byrd, after his expedition to the arctic.
These 3D models can not only be preserved by the use of these 3D scans, but also, now we can bring them back to life in what would have been their home.
